Navigate to Tags
You can manage everything you need from your Tags menu page in Timely.
- Click on Settings from your left-hand side menu bar
- Select Tags in the top menu bar (fourth from left)
Create a new tag
- Hit the green "New Tag" button
- Give your tag a name
- Select an emoji (great for quickly identifying the tag you're using)
- Slap the green button "Add Tag" or "Cancel" if you change your mind
- Boom! Done-zo! You made a tag
Add and delete as many tags as you want right from the management page.
Here you can create both tags and sub-tags:
If you need to edit the title of a tag, no problem-o. Just click on the name of the tag and you'll be presented with a type box. Type your new name and hit enter.
You can also edit the tag emoji!
Adding tags to an entry
When writing a note for your entry, use the "tab" key to select an existing tag from the checkbox list. Don’t see the tag you want to use? Just click "Manage Tags" to add more (e.g. "Testing"). The next time you add a new entry, you’ll be able to use that tag.
An entry can have as many tags as you want.
*Note: You can only select one sub-tag per tag.
Use the tag search bar if you can't find what you're looking for:
Sub-tags are great for seeing how long different project phases take e.g. the sub-tag "Bugs" for the main tag "Programming", or the sub-tag "Sketching" for the main tag "Design."
Sub-tags can also have an emoji.

Just select an entry'd sub-tag using the radio-buttons and drag to rearrange. *Note: You can only have one sub-tag per main tag on each entry. If you want to be able to use multiple sub-level tags, you should change them to main tags instead.

Is it possible to move sub-tags to another main tag?
It's not quick, but it's possible. Create a new main tag with the title you want, then go to each entry with the old sub-tag and switch it to the main tag.
Who can create and manage the tags?
Admins users only.
Where can I see all the time I've logged for each tag?
All hours logged on a tag can be viewed in the Reports section. Learn more on how you can generate a report on your tags.
Can I bulk update several hours with a tag in one go?
Absolutely. Bulk updating your hours is great for when you need to apply a particular tag to many hours for several different users all at once. You can do this swiftly inside the project whose hours you want to apply the tag to.
Use the checkboxes on the left-hand side, just like when you mark hours as billed. Then select which tags you want to apply to the hours selected and hit update.
*You can also bulk delete hours if you need to. We recommend that you use this feature carefully, since once you delete hours you cannot get them back.
