🖍️ Creating a Custom User Field
Custom fields are your secret weapon for making user profiles a bit more you! 🎨 Whether you need to track specific project roles, quirky internal info, or anything else, you can easily create and manage these fields in just a few clicks.
To get started:
1. Log into Timely and head to the Workspace Settings area
2. Hit that ”+ Add Custom Field” button—it’s time to customize!
3. Name your field (get creative, but keep it under 25 characters).
4. Click Save and voilà! Your custom field is now live and ready for action.
Now you’re ready to start collecting all the extra info you need—because when it comes to data, one size does not fit all!
❎ Deleting a Custom User Field
Uh-oh, made a custom field you no longer need? No worries! Deleting custom fields is as easy as adding them (maybe even easier 💨).
To delete a custom field:
1. Head back to the same Workspace Settings area within Timely
2. Find the custom field you want to bid farewell to and then click that trusty Delete button, appearing as the 🗑️ icon
3. Confirm your decision, and poof—the field and all its associated values / data will be gone for good.
Deletion is final, so double-check before you hit that button! 🔥
⚠️ Fields can be deleted at anytime, but it's important to note that all associated data will also be removed. This can not be reversed.

Custom fields are super flexible and easy to manage! Here’s how you can make the most out of them:
Managing the data in Custom User Fields
Once you’ve added your custom fields they’ll appear in each user’s profile. You can then add or edit the data contained within those fields whenever you'd like ✍️.
To do so, just head to the People Dashboard in Timely. Click the “…” button next to the user, then select Edit User. From there, simply scroll down until you see the custom fields, and enter your desired data. Easy as that! 🎯
Once created you'll see those same custom fields when creating a new user as well, so can add in your desired data right from the start.
Changes can then be made any time, so feel free to update information as needed. Whether it’s tracking project roles, certifications, or the office’s favorite coffee order ☕—the possibilities are endless!
Exporting the data from Custom User Fields
Need to pull your custom data out? No problem! Exporting is a breeze:
1. Navigate to the Reports Dashboard in Timely
2. Select your reporting template, add and filter your desired data, and click the Export button along the top
3. Select either the CSV or Excel export option and ensure you have the Custom user fields option selected.
4. Finalize your export and success! You’ll get all the custom fields in your CSV/Excel file - each with it's own column with the data values in each row.
Now you can sort, filter, and manipulate your custom data in any way you like—perfect for those deeper insights you’ve been looking for. 📊

You can create up to 50 custom fields—so go ahead, get creative, but remember there’s a cap 🏁!
Can I delete a custom field without losing data?
Nope! Once you hit delete, it’s gone forever, data and all. So make sure you’re absolutely certain before clicking that button! 🚨
Are custom fields included in exports?
Yes, all of them! Just like tags, you can export all custom fields in one go—no field left behind. 📝
***Do I need to be an Admin in order to export custom fields?
Nope, not at all! Other roles, like employees and managers, can export custom field data or edit the data values in those custom fields as long as they’ve got the right permissions.
But remember, only Admins hold the magic wand when it comes to creating and editing those custom fields themselves.
